A group of enthusiastic young Obama volunteers are following the Warped Tour across America (sponsored by Vans Shoes and featuring bands such as We the Kings, Street Dogs, Reel Big Fish and Protest the Hero). They’re trying to register young concertgoers and convince them to vote for Obama because “Obama is there to support what you need in terms of college tuition, your interests in the future, whether it be clean energy, economic stability . . . “ Looks like the future’s so bright we’ll have to wear shades.

The New York Times’ Brian Stelter reports today on the importance of young voters passing around links — especially videos — not just consumers but conduits of campaign news.
Rather than treating video-sharing Web sites as traditional news sources, young people use them as tools and act as editors themselves.“We’re talking about a generation that doesn’t just like seeing the video in addition to the story — they expect it,” said Danny Shea, 23, the associate media editor for The Huffington Post (huffingtonpost.com). “And they’ll find it elsewhere if you don’t give it to them, and then that’s the link that’s going to be passed around over e-mail and instant message.”
In her attempt to speak to the youth vote, Hillary Clinton’s campaign comes out with another comic video about the time when she joined the band — made the band — and then quit to run for president. OK, it admits, maybe she doesn’t shred, but she will make college affordable.
Compare and contrast with the more treacly music video for Obama’s camp, which the campaign is now proudly displaying atop its home page.
