Bill Richardson lays it on thick for Barack Obama. (Will Richardson lose the beard if he gets the VP spot?)
Sound Bite: “Your candidacy . . . is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our nation and you are a once-in-a-lifetime leader.”
Sound Bite: “It is time for Democrats to stop fighting amongst ourselves and prepare for the tough fight we will have against John McCain in the fall.”
Governor Bill Richardson says “Whoever has the most delegates after Tuesday — a clear lead — should be, in my judgment, the nominee.” Then he goes on to qualify, obfuscate and yak on both sides of the same point. Seems like a perfect choice for V.P.
Bill Richardson’s has a new 30-second spot running in Iowa that details the candidate’s “bold plan” for education: nuke No Child Left Behind, institute minimum teaching wage, guarantee universal pre-K and kindergarten, establish math and science academies.
Unions may be shrinking in size and influence in other quarters of society, but not in the Democratic primaries. Every other day, John Edwards is putting up another union lovefest on YouTube and then the other candidates try to prove their love.
Here is Bill Richardson, amazingly, calling for a tax incentive to be given to companies that unionize.
And it’s Friday, so it must be time for another Edwards union endorsement, this one from the Carpenters Union.
Sound bite: “I want to be the president who walks out onto the White House lawn and proudly — proudly — says the word ‘union’.”
He also talks about universal health care and says that “access to health care” and “affordable health care” are “weasel words.”
Governor Bill Richardson continues to answer voter questions on YouTube. Here’s one about Native American issues:
Sound Bites:
- “We will have a cabinet-level department to deal with Native American issues.”
- “I will treat Native American governments as a separate government.”
- “There will be a Native American in my cabinet. Maybe even more”
Bill Richardson got all tangled up at the recent gay and lesbian forum in Los Angeles when answering a question about whether homosexuality is choice or biology. Richardson said “It’s a choice.” Buzzzzz. Wrong answer, Governor.
After the forum, clarifications ensued. Richardson said he “didn’t understand the question.” He does understand damage control, however, so here’s a campaign clip featuring a gay and lesbian activist and a New Mexico government official talking about how Richardson has supported gay and lesbian issues for years.
Bill Richardson buys TV to advertise his web site and his message about energy there.
I think that’s an interesting moment in campaign marketing. Thirty seconds, he says, isn’t long enough to list all his plans and accomplishments and so he uses TV to drive to the web.
In a new ad scheduled to run in Iowa, Governor Bill Richardson says “Congress has to stand up to this President. We need to get all of our troops out of Iraq.” More at washingtonpost.com’s Channel ‘08.
Governor Bill Richardson claims to have the most aggressive energy plan of any candidate. But “government can only go so far,” he says, ”an energy revolution must start with citizens.” And so he’s asking viewers to submit videos that illustrate new ideas about energy conservation and the use of alternative fuels. He and his staff will review the videos and “whoever has the best or most original idea, I’ll come visit.” Nicely done.
What a shock! A whole bunch of New Mexico Latino Democratic officeholders support New Mexico Latino Democratic Governor Bill Richardson’s presidential bid. Here’s Santa Fe County Commissioner Harry Montoya saying his piece.
In his latest commercial — standard ad fare, not the amusing job interviews for which he has become known — Bill Richardson brags about making New Mexico “a clean energy state” and promises to work the same wonders for America:
