A Choice not an Echo?

Former Congressman Barry Goldwater, Jr. — looking a bit like Barry Switzer these days — endorses Ron Paul for President.

Sound Bite: “Ron Paul believes in a strong national defense but not being the policeman of the world.”

Post Debate: Ron Paul Spins

Internet superstar Ron Paul didn’t get a lot of face time during the last debate but he had plenty to say in the post-debate spin room. He talks about cutting spending, cutting taxes, ending US military intervention abroad and the vibrant online community that has rallied around his campaign.

Red State Update on Ron Paul

Jackie Broyles and Dunlap are mighty impressed by Ron Paul’s recent Internet fundraising haul and they want to get on board the money train.

Sound Bite: “Crazy people got checkbooks too, Jackie.”

Ron Paul’s $ Revolution

“Remember, remember the Fifth of November!” That was the battle cry from Ron Paul supporters as they mounted an online fundraising blitz yesterday that garnered their man some $4.2 million from 37,000 donors in 24 hours. Here’s one of the clips that made the rounds — Paul’s supporters have given the film V for Vendetta a second life.

Ron Paul and The Sex Pistols

Internet superhero Ron Paul got to sit on Jay Leno’s couch last week and deliver his message of limited federal government, reduced taxes, self-reliance, non-intervention and constitutionalism to Tonight Show viewers. This extended clip features Paul’s rock-star entrance outside the studio along with scenes of the candidate and his supporters watching the show later that evening. If you make it to the end, you’ll see Sex Pistol frontman John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) greet Paul.

Ron who?

Ron Paul cadges enough money together to make a radio commercial. “Who’s Ron Paul?” it asks. Research must be showing that most people don’t know (and don’t read blog comments or watch YouTube videos, where the Paul cultists are everywhere). So it answers biography and philosophy.

VoterVid: Ron Paul Revolution

As Halloween approaches, let’s hear from a Ron Paul supporter.

Sound Bite: “Sadly, dark days have befallen our country and one man stands alone. One honest man stands alone above the parcel of rogues that run this country.”

Baring her support for Ron Paul

I just assume that most of the Ronbots — Ron Paul’s army/cult — are sweaty guys with greasy hair and thick glasses and flannel shirts (in July) and annoying ticks.

Oh, how wrong can I be?

Here’s a Ronbot taking off her clothes for her man:

Leaving Iraq

When the Republican candidates debate, Ron Paul usually provides the sparks. Last night was no different as Paul got into it with Governor Huckabee over leaving Iraq “with honor.”

Sound Bite: [Paul] “When we make a mistake, it is the obligation of the people through their representatives to correct the mistake not to continue the mistake.”

VoterVid: Questions for Republican Debate

It may be the dog days of August, but voters continue to submit video questions for the Republican CNN/YouTube debate.

Cancer researcher Geoff Wahl wants to know what the candidates will do to ensure adequate funding to combat the disease.

Extra credit to Michael from Washington, DC for coming up with a creative approach to the gays in the military question.

Will you support a National Service Draft, asks Roger from Washington.

Question for Ron Paul: “Why is it so hard to believe that you are a Republican?”

Dr. Ron

Ron Paul makes two commercials for Iowa and note well that the subject isn’t Iraq, it’s abortion…

And taxes…

Republican Iowa Debate

At Sunday’s Republican candidates debate in Des Moines, Iowa, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani are asked about Senator Obama’s recent statements about taking military action in Pakistan against al-Qaeda.

Romney says “Barack Obama is confused as to who are our friends and who are our enemies.” More Romney clips from the Iowa debate here.

“Pakistan has, unfortunately, not been making the effort that they should be making,” says Giuliani, but “. . . we should seek their permission if we ever had to take action there.” More Giuliani clips from the Iowa debate here.

And in response to another foreign policy question, Ron Paul says “We can achieve much more in peace than we can ever achieve in these needless, unconstitutional, undeclared wars.”

Calling out Rudy and Mitt

A voter calls out Giulliani and Romney for trying to find excuses to duck the YouTube debate. He calls them a variation on what I called them: fraidycat. And — no surprise — he comes around to say the real reason they’re scared is because they don’t want to face Ron Paul. Ron Paul is everywhere.

The Channel 08 blog has the latest on the tango over the debate: It might be rescheduled.

Hard to hum

Ron Paul’s campaign puts up a video from Ron Paul’s visit to Google, starting with a song: If You Google Ron Paul. The people who are really running the world seem to like him.

Sound bite from the lyrics: Last chance to restore our freee-eee-eee-dom. Last chance to save our Cons-tis-tooo-shun. Cons-tis-tooo-shun. Cons-tis-tooo-shun.”

Here was his visit to YouTube.

Scared, stampeding elephants

Continuing Rush’s content (in the post directly below) that YouTube is a gigantic liberal conspiracy, Jose Antonio Vargas at WashingtonPost.com learns that so far, only two Republican candidates have signed up for their YouTube/CNN debate.

. . . But so far, only Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) and Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) have agreed to participate in the debate, co-hosted by Republican Party of Florida in St. Petersburg. . . .

Sources familiar with the Guiliani campaign said he’s unlikely to participate. . . .

In an interview Wednesday with the Manchester (N.H.) Union Leader, Romney said he’s not a fan of the CNN/YouTube format. Referring to the video of a snowman asking the Democratic candidates about global warming, Romney quipped, “I think the presidency ought to be held at a higher level than having to answer questions from a snowman.” . . .

“We’re very hopeful that all the campaigns will get on board,” said Steve Grove, head of news and politics at YouTube.

Added state Republican spokeswoman Erin VanSickle: “It’s an important debate in an important battleground state that just moved its primary to Jan. 29th. In other words, we have every confidence that they will attend. They can’t afford not to.”
