Made in anywhere but China

Chris Dodd calls on the White House, under its World Trade Organization authority, to ban imports of food and toys from China. Frankly, I’m surprised it took so long for someone to make this an issue.

Retail Politics

The indefatigable and personable Senator Chris Dodd works a farmers market and a restaurant in New Hampshire, talking agriculture and politics. He even shifts effortlessly to Spanish for some chitchat, although he mistakes two long-haired boys for girls.

Sound Bite: “You guys are certified organic?”

AFL-CIO Debate Highlights

At the AFL-CIO debate in Chicago on August 7, Senators Dodd and Clinton pile on Senator Obama for suggesting that the US unilaterally send forces into Pakistan to fight al-Qaeda.

Sound Bite: [Clinton] “You can think big, but remember, you shouldn’t always say everything you think if you’re running for president, because it has consequences around the world.”

Barack bobs and weaves and the hometown crowd cheers.

Should candidates take money from lobbyists? John Edwards, Hillary Clinton and Barack explain why money from banks, insurance companies, drug companies, multinational corporations is very, very bad. (Now, about that money from defense lawyers and union lobbyists? Hmmmmm.)

Want screamin’ Joe Biden highlights? Here they are:

Badge of dishonor

Just as John Edwards proudly displays every attack on him by Ann Coulter, so does Chris Dodd wear an attack from Bill O’Reilly — over going to the Kos convention — as a feather in his cap.

But what about that pink nose?

Catching up on Dodd’s voluminous video, I find him recycling his white-hair gag from the debate in a commercial (or vice versa):

Kodachrome op

Paul Simon hangs out with the Dodd family on the bus:

Dodd Loves Iowa

Rolling along the Interstate in his campaign bus, Senator Chris Dodd recounts the high points of the last week spent crossing Iowa from the Mississippi River to the Missouri River. He loves Iowa. He loves Iowa parades. He loves cornfields. He loves small towns.

Sound Bite: “It’s a pretty special place . . . If a good part of the country ever found out what was out here, they could be swamped.”

Simon & Dodd

Paul Simon reinterprets one of his most famous songs at a rally for Senator Chris Dodd.

The Chris Show

In a talk with voters in Iowa, Chris Dodd brags that the event is being webcast live. As well he should.

There’s no crying in presidential politics

Now this is more like it: fun video of Chris Dodd batting on the Field of Dreams. He got a walk.

Parsley, sage, rosemary, in an Iowa Diner

Paul Simon introduces Chris Dodd in Iowa, telling how they met on a mission to Eastern Europe 20 years ago.

Simon & Garfunkel’s first concert was in Iowa. Didn’t work. The organizers said, “They told us you were like the Smothers Brothers. You’re not funny.” But he gets some laughs this time.

Campaigns, live

PrezVid took the day off. Lots of hot dogs to barbecue, you know. Apple pie to make.

But it was fascinating to see Chris Dodd’s campaign go live from Iowa on the holiday with four channels of TV. Here’s Dodd talking about going live during the day, from the bus:

Between slices of that pie, I also spent some time yesterday watching the lifestreamers on Justin.tv — people who broadcast their entire days from little cameras on their hats. And I was thinking it would be fascinating to see the campaign through the candidate’s eyes.

So how about that as a challenge, YouTubing candidates: Put a camera on your head for a day and really show us what it’s like to campaign.

Hillcam not must-see TV

The Clinton campaign touted its Hillcam following Bill and Hillary in Iowa this week — promising to show us behind-the-scenes with the First Power Couple — but as it turns out, all we’ve seen is two videos that look like all the candidates’ meanderings. They also don’t put them up on YouTube, so I can’t embed them here.

In the latest episode, B&H visit a Dairy Queen. Bill orders a grilled chicken — poor Bill — and a large ice tea, lots of ice. While Hillary oohs over a baby — no kisses — Bill gets bored and heads back to take care of the food order. That’s it.

Compare and contrast with Chris Dodd’s D-TV with four channels of live action: all Dodd all the time. Our sister blog, Channel-08, gives you all the details.

: UPDATE: The Clinton campaign now has the videos on YouTube here.

Se habla YouTube

Chris Dodd shows off being interviewed in Spanish:

‘Friggin’ cool’

James Kotecki, reviews Chris Dodd’s YouTube Spotlight video dispatching his supporters to stalk fellow senators and congressman. James decrees it ‘friggin’ cool.’ High praise, indeed.
