* 75 million used the internet in connectino with political campaigns in 2004; 64 million in the 2006 midterm elections.
* 52 million use the internet to research policy issues.
* 38 million use email to try to influence government officials on policy changes.
* 26 million use the internet for news about politics on an average day in 2006, up 140 percent from 2002.
* 25 million fact-checked the candidates online in 2006.
* 24 million have participated in organized lobbying campaigns.
*14 million were political content creators and sharers in 2006.
*14 million read political and media blogs.
*13 million consulted candidate sites in 2006.
* 4 million donated to candidates online in 2006.
* 2 million write about politics on their blogs.

Rainie says broadband users under 35 are just as likely to cite the internet as TV as their major source of political news and information. That is the tipping point. The revolution will not be televised… soon.

He says that far more people are finding alternate sources for news, including comedy sites and blogs. Thus, Rainie argues, the definition of news is expanding.
