A Productive Exchange of Ideas

With decades of experience dealing with pro-life protestors under your belt, you’d think — when challenged — that you’d deliver your stock position in a calm, collected, sensitive manner and then move on. If the protestors continue to shout and scream, you’d wait for order to be restored and then move on. You’d be seen as a reasonable leader; they’d be seen as irrational zealots. Makes sense, right? Naw, that’s too easy. Bill Clinton shows a better way to handle the situation at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.

Switching Sides

The former president of Chicago NOW says she was a Hillary Clinton supporter until Clinton misrepresented Barack Obama’s position on choice. She’s now supporting Barack Obama because “not only is he 100 percent pro-choice, he’s 100 percent honest.”

Sam’s comedy tour

A six-minute Brownback video starts with one-liners from his comedy tour of Iowa, then segues into a sepia-toned biography of great accomplishments — president of — and then morphs into his issue one-liners.

Comedy sound bites: “It’s amazing how many of these small towns are named after their watertowers. . . You guys know how to welcome a guy from Kansas. [beat] With a tornado.”

Character sound bite: “America’s most consistent conservative. His values don’t change in the wind. He stands tall like an oak.” Cue oak shot.

Political sound bite: “We’re close to being able to overturn Roe vs. Wade. We’re one justice away.” And he wants to be the president who appoints that justice. “You can’t understand America without understanding faith.”

Dr. Ron

Ron Paul makes two commercials for Iowa and note well that the subject isn’t Iraq, it’s abortion…

And taxes…

Any friend of his…

Pat Robertson gives Rudy Giuliani a hug and a rave review and a pass on abortion (”abortion is not something a president should have anything to do with”):

And here is an interview on Robertson’s “CBN”, which Giulini’s campaign put up on YouTube (Soundbite: “All in all, there is a conservative case to be made for Giuliani”):

God joins in

During a question about abortion, lightning strikes and interrupts Rudy Giuliani’s answer:

Note that God had nothing to say about evolution.

Republican Debate: The Abortion Issue

Highlights: Governor Romney explains his change of mind. Rudy Giuliani offers a nuanced view and says “It would be OK to repeal [Roe v. Wade]. Or it would be OK also if a strict constructionist judge viewed it as a precedent.”

So, Mitt…

Mitt Romney’s site adds an “Ask Mitt Anything” feature. Well, not anything, not yet. They put up questions and answers from an event in New Hampshire in April. I’d also like to see us being able to ask questions without having to trudge up to Live Free or Die state and I’d also like to see my fellow citizens’ questions, answered or not. Still, it’s a start. Here’s Mitt explaining his flipflop on abortion (smoother than his podcast recanting here):

Jump Cuts

An A+ from Rosie O’Donnell: The founders of Student Scholars for 9/11 Truth buttonhole Barack Obama after a recent address at New Hampshire’s Keene State College and politely ask some conspiracy questions. The candidate dances away gracefully.

Payback: Phillip de Vellis (aka ParkRidge47), the guy who made “Vote Different” - the 1984 Apple ad mash-up attacking Hillary Clinton - gets mashed up himself.

Hot Button: Rudy Giuliani’s comments on abortion in his recent interview with CNN’s Dana Bash are generating numerous clips on YouTube.
