Voting for Nader or any candidate is far from an abdication of responsibility. Any candidate is a “real” candidate; people should choose the one they believe would make the best President. As long as people view elections as a lesser of two evils, one or the other choice, nothing will change.

The real abdication of responsibility is voting for a candidate that you do not fully believe is the best candidate, just because they are supported by one of the major political parties.

How are we supposed to support your half-assed candidates when you curse the only true progressive to get any whole percentage of the national vote in the past 30 years?

Because it’s not about us, and it’s not about you. How can you cast your vote entirely based on spite?

Elections in this country matter, and unfortunately they’re decided on what is essentially a “lesser of two evils” basis. In 2000, Gore was very clearly the lesser of two evils against Bush, and voting for Nader in a swing state was an abdication of the responsibility to actually decide which of the real candidates would be better for the country, however marginally (and I don’t think the difference has proved to be particularly marginal, however unsatisfactory Gore would have been).

Voting in a democracy isn’t about appeasing your ego and proving how pure you are. It’s about deciding who should lead the country for four years. There has never been any chance that Ralph Nader would be elected president. As such, it’s deeply irresponsible to (repeatedly) vote for him on the premise that the Democrats and Republicans are the same.

As lame, and weak, and pathetic as the Democrats often are, they’re still miles better than the GOP. Denying that obvious reality so you can feel good about yourself is despicable.

It’s this kind of inane absurdity that makes true leftists hate democrats. I’m glad you’re happy with the two party system. Those of us that can think a bit beyond 4 or 8 years at a time are not. The two party system is destroying this country, and without a viable third party it will only get worse.

Besides the Subprime Cort, Ralph Nader is one of the important
factors that got Bush elected in the first place. Then
he hangs around with Grover Norquist, favors the conservatives
on Terry Schivo while giving a lawyerly Nader excuse for doing so and then wants everyone to believe he was doing it for the ppl.
THEN, he writes a book and goes with the flow again and
comes out against Bush…when it was safe to do so. So Ralph,
tell us all about the right thing to do while knowing you
will never get anywhere except to be somebodies monkey.

Yup Ralph, you can never be wrong b/c you will never be elected.
Your supporters will never be wrong either b/c whatever
3rd party candidate they support their reasoning will never
have to stand up to reality b/c he will never have to deal
with direct political realty. So let’s hear about our
unipolar political system Ralph and what you are going to
do about it, Bush monkey.

He is still the only one telling the truth… still way ahead of his time. The happy $700 billion from the taxpayers to the wallstreet corporations is a case in point. Along with the practically unanimous vote to attack Iraq. Go Ralph Nader! May free speech be alive again.
