A Wee Bit of Blarney?

Up until a few weeks ago, most folks gave President Bill Clinton and Senator George Mitchell a lot of credit for helping to negotiate the Northern Ireland peace accords back in the ‘90s. But now we’re learning that Hillary Clinton was seriously involved in the process. Well, that’s her story and she’s sticking to it. Other accounts of her role differ. See here and here and here.

But as Detective “Bunk” Moreland from HBO’s The Wire, says: The bigger the lie, the more they believe.”

So here’s a clip from Hillary Clinton’s campaign that twins a Christmas time speech she made in Belfast in 1995 with a 2007 meeting she had with two Northern Ireland government officials, who make some polite comments. The message being — without anything of substance being said — that she was a player in the peace process. And the beat goes on.

Sound Bite: “This Christmas, let us remember the reason behind why we liked Christmas trees.”
