Barack Obama sure does appeal to the relatives of former U.S. Presidents. Lifelong Republican Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of President Dwight Eisenhower, says she’s backing Barack.
Sound Bite: “Of all the candidates on the scene today he’s the one individual who can really begin a new era in American politics and begin the process of re-energizing the great American debate.”
The other day Bob Dole asked Rush Limbaugh to back off criticizing John McCain. In an interview with Fox News, Mitt Romney says Dole is “probably the last person I would have wanted to have write a letter for me.” (He probably should’ve just called him another old fart.)
Sound Bite: “The American people are so tired of listening to Senators talk about their bills and their committees. They want to know how somebody has accomplished something for their state or their city.”
Apparently not everyone is fired up and ready to go on Super Tuesday. Minnesota Public Radio’s “In the Loop” show talks to young voters in Minneapolis.
Hillary Clinton tells Dave that the presidential race is “exhausting but exhilirating.” She blames the economic slowdown and the housing problems on “mistakes” and says that all of society’s problems are “solvable.” They yuk it up a bit and Letterman asks Hillary who told Bill to “ease up.”
Sound Bite: “In my White House, we will know who wears the pantsuits.”
In her attempt to speak to the youth vote, Hillary Clinton’s campaign comes out with another comic video about the time when she joined the band — made the band — and then quit to run for president. OK, it admits, maybe she doesn’t shred, but she will make college affordable.
Compare and contrast with the more treacly music video for Obama’s camp, which the campaign is now proudly displaying atop its home page.
Nothing like being in the national spotlight to get an old pol’s juices flowing again. A fired-up Ted Kennedy talks real loud, shakes his fist and wags his finger at a rally for Barack Obama in Hartford, CT yesterday.
Sound Bite: “Hello Connecticut! Are you glad to see me?”
