Just because it’s new, that doesn’t mean that candidates must embrace it. So text-messaging is cool. Does that make it the next medium for selecting a president?
But here we have Hillary Clinton announcing plans to use a “mobile-to-mobile text-messaging push” — whatever the hell that is — to pump her candidacy. And here we have John Edwards telling people to text their opposition to the war — which is about as meaningful as texting your choice for American Idol.
And we thought that network news soundbites were ridiculously short and insubstantial. What can we say in 140-character SMSes?
Jeff, I kinda like the text messaging. I am friends with Obama and Edwards on Twitter. They update what they are doing occasionally. I am enjoying the connection right now. I was hoping that getting the tweets would give me more of an opportunity to get to a rally or speech of one of the candidates. We will see if that happens.
