Barack Obama has been criticized for not saying anything of substance in his videos. (See Jeff Jarvis’s Advice for Obama.) Well, this latest offering from the Obama campaign - Selma, Alabama; March 4th, 2007 - will make it easier (or harder) to argue that case. Why? Because in this clip the candidate not only doesn’t say anything of substance, he doesn’t say anything at all. In fact, he’s not even shown and his name is not uttered by any of the speakers commemorating “Bloody Sunday.”
No doubt his supporters think this sort of thing is downright audacious and that it bolsters the candidate’s appeal as an inspiring (if unseen) presence, a beacon of hope in a troubled world. But it will leave a lot of other voters scratching their noggins.
You’ll want to hang in until the the end for the clip’s punch line. It’s “good crazy!”
